The biggest fear turned out to be "social death": insufficiency in some form. To feel that we are not living up to expectations, that we are a failure. That we are not enough.

Phobias ranked third on the list of fears. Spiders and heights topped the list, but it also included ghosts and needles.

Catastrophies

on the global stage

When I set out on this project we were on the heels of Covid. Yet, not a single person mentioned pandemics as a big fear. Interestingly, large threats such as demise of democracy, climate catastrophe and war did not rank as high as expected. Those who mentioned it were primarily European and skewed older.
